Abstract

The BIOANTIOX project aims for the synthesis of aromatic glycerol acetals, with potential antioxidant property in biolubricants, starting from raw glycerol and bioaromatic aldehydes, catalyzed by efficient nanostructured catalysts.

The project’s approach is of international interest, because

(a) it focuses on glycerol valorization, an industrial by-product;

(b) new ‘bio-antioxidants’ will to be developed, due the strong demand for environmentally acceptable fluid;

(c) catalysis by nanostructured materials is an active area of research around the globe and electrospinning process is easy to apply, has high speed and cost-effectiveness for the production of nanofibers.

 

Objectives

O1. Design of highly activ, magnetic, acid nanocatalysts for aromatic glycerol acetal synthesis.

O2. Glycerol conversion to bioaromatic acetals.

O3. Testing of antioxidant activities of aromatic acetals.

O4. Exploitation of the research results by disemination at national and international level.

 

 

 

Workflow

1st Phase: Design, synthesis and characterization of acid, magnetic, nanocatalysts, for aromatic glycerol acetals synthesis – preliminary studies (01.09.2020-31.12.2020).

2nd Phase: Synthesis, development, characterization and (preliminary) testing of acid, magnetic, nanocatalysts, for aromatic glycerol acetals synthesis. Exploitation of research results by dissemination at national and international level (01.01.2021-31.12.2021).

3rd Phase: Optimization of aromatic glycerol acetals synthesis process and  evaluation of their antioxidant capacity (01.01.2022-31.08.2022).
