Metallic materials expertise

The ECOMET – UPB’s infrastructure can provide a multiple range of investigations such as:

  • Analysis, tests and investigations for the evaluation of the technical condition of industrial equipment (subject to the ISCIR technical prescriptions);
  • Lifetime assessment in secure conditions of industrial equipment;
  • Diagnostics and technical expertise;
  • Post-crash technical analysis;
  • Structural expertise and investigation of metallic materials through optical microscopy, scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and X-ray microanalysis (EDAX);
  • Chemical analysis of ferrous and nonferrous metallic materials by optical emission spectrometry and X-ray spectrometry;
  • Qualitative and quantitative phase analysis by X-ray diffraction;
  • Non-destructive structural analysis of metallographic replicas according to ISO 3057 on industrial products able seamless and welded for inspection and expertise;
  • Non-destructive analysis performed with ultrasounds (US); penetrating liquids and magnetic powders;
  • Tests for corrosion resistance of materials and surface coatings;
  • Thickness measurements with ultrasound technique;
  • Measurement of residual internal stresses by X-ray diffraction;
  • Measurements of scattered X-rays at small angles on nano-powders (SAXS).
  • Analysis of art pieces.

Nanomaterials and special alloys

We can provide services regarding:

  • Synthesis and characterization of oxide and metallic nanomaterials (Fe2O3, Fe3O4, ZnO, TiO2, Ag) with applications in water treatment and soil remediation
  • Elaboration, micro and nano-structural characterization and testing of special alloys properties.

 Mechanical Tests

  • Ambient temperature traction tests;
  • High temperature traction tests;
  • Shock-bending tests on specimens with U2, U3 or V type channels;
  • Hardness measurements;
  • Technological tests.

Environmental expertise

  • Wastewater and surface water analysis: Fe, Cu, Cd, Ni, Zn, Pb (RENAR accreditation);
  • Waste and leachate analysis;
  • Soil indicator analysis;
  • Testing of innovative materials used in removal processes of target pollutants (heavy metals, organic compounds).

 Inventory, projections and management of air pollutants emissions released from industrial processes

We provide support for national authorities (Ministry of Environment, National Environmental Agency) in estimation, validation and reporting of GHG (CO2, CH4, N2O, PFC, HFC, NF3) and other air pollutants (NOx, PM, SOx, NH3, NMVOC, etc) emissions included in national inventories according with european and international legal requirements (NEC Directive, UNFCCC decisions, etc).

We develop national emissions projections for GHG and other air pollutants in accordance with international legal requirements. This activities include also the impact assessment for policies and measures applied in industrial production sector.

Air pollutant emissions management for industrial site is another service provided. This include emissions identification and assessment, air pollutants modeling, emissions mitigation solution and control. Also we provide support for air pollutants reporting under different legal requirements (i.e. EU-ETS).
